Harpoonin'

As far as online searches for specific individual branded IPAs go, as far as we can tell, Harpoon IPA takes top honors in the category. We love when any IPA is the flagship beer at a particular brewery and that is indeed how Harpoon Brewery proudly describes its standing amongst their other brews. Harpoon IPA has been brewed since 1992, which is pretty awesome because that was a long time ago in the grand scheme of craft beer things in general. The fact that we are discussing a 20+ year old India Pale Ale is just icing on the cake because we will bet there were not too many others back then. We applaud the amount of helpful data points offered up along with explanations of the process to satiate the true IPA enthusiasts appetite for knowledge. Speaking of appetite, it is recommended that you crack one of these open when eating Thai food, grilled seafood and spicy chicken. The Harpoon IPA alcohol content is a reasonable 5.9% which is the result of "an abundance of fermentable sugar" which accounts for the relatively high original gravity. The slightly fruity aroma is a direct result of a secret (proprietary) yeast strain that is cultivated on site. We haven't been able to try one of these yet because we're on the West Coast and it looks like a Boston thing but we sure would love to get ahold of some soon!
