Jacob Harper brewer and barrel master explains the name, "Chainbreaker kind of kicks off the moutain bike season because it's one of the first races of the year there's lots of mechanical failures, lots of broken chains, lots of flat tires..it's really a hybrid beer we kind of created our own style betwen a wheat beer and an IPA. I think there's a few similarities possibly the grittiness of a wheat beer with the dirt in your teeth that you get from this bike race. Chainbreaker would be a cougar because much like the beer and the mountain bikers here in Centeral Oregon, it is fast, elusive and very mysterious."
